Parents: Sunday Night Discipleship {0}

Every Sunday evening we have a time of discipleship with the Junior High and Senior High students that I highly encourage you to make a part of your family’s Lord’s Day. I encourage you to have your children finish their homework and projects before Sunday allowing this day and this evening to be a time spent with brothers and sisters in Christ worshiping, resting and specifically discipleship for our young people. Below I’ve laid out what the evening looks like each week, if you have any questions please contact me at 913-439-9319 or bhough@redeemer-pca.org
First Sunday of Month: The first Sunday of every month we take time to share about big events going on in our lives and to ask for prayer for various aspects of each student’s life. Then we all pray for one other person creating a circle of prayer. This serves as an opportunity to learn about each other’s lives and to pray for each other. We make a point that our prayers are to God and not for the purpose of impressing each other.
Second Sunday of Month: Go over morning sermon helping each student to better understand the text and how we are to apply it to our lives this week and from then on. This is great for applying it to a youth’s life.
Third Sunday of Month: Play students songs/advertisements/bits of movies/etc. to get them to think about each of these from a Christian Worldview. What agrees with Scripture, what is contrary to Scripture, what is this hoping to make me believe or do, etc. The goal is get them to interact with media in life critically as opposed to mindlessly and to see God’s Holy Scripture as the standard by which all things are judged.
Fourth Sunday of Month: Select a text of Scripture and have them do some basic thinking about it to develop personal Bible study skills. What does it say in your own words? What does it mean? What should we do or believe different having learned this from God’s Word among other questions.
