Brothers & Sisters

Tonight we began to look at sibling relationships, Brothers & Sisters. How we are treat our brothers and sisters matters to God, so what do the Holy Scriptures teach? This is specifically for how we relate to our brothers and sisters, but also how we treat those in our Covenant Community.

Tonight we introduced the topic and looked at the first of 5 basic ideas.

1. The model of love in the body of Christ should be the pattern for families

“Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.” (Romans 12:10 ESV)

“Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart,” (1 Peter 1:22 ESV)

“For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, 6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, 7 and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.” (2 Peter 1:5–7 ESV)

“We love because he first loved us.” (1 John 4:19 ESV)

Over the next two weeks we’ll continue the topic looking at the following areas.

2. Family life should reflect Christian life.

3. “Others first” is a rule of life, especially in the family.

4. Peacemaking should always be a priority.

5. Wise use of our speech helps keep peace with brothers and sisters.

Wednesday Night we’ll be learning what God’s Word has to say about how we relate to our brothers and sisters. No sibling? We’ll also be learning about how we relate to all who are brothers and sisters in Christ.

Hope to see you there!

Galatians 5:16-18

2009
10.10

The Scripture text for Sunday is below. Read it today and pray for pastor Tony as he finishes his sermon prep.

“But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.” (Galatians 5:16–18 ESV)
