BMT: Road Trip Day One

DSCN0286.JPG

I’ve decided to do the post on the Border Mission Trip in a few portions. This year we took a road trip before getting to Laredo, the first few post will chronicle the trip there, then what we did getting there followed by our drive home. 8 total people drove and four flew. In the van we drove 2458 miles going to Dallas, Galveston, Houston, New Braunfels, San Antonio, Austin and Laredo. Follow the link to see pics and read about the first day of travel.

Day One

We set out from Redeemer a little after 8 a.m. with no one officially seeing us off, students went in and hugged Jon Meyers just to get the leaving for a big trip feel. Jon awkwardly allowed the shenanigans. We traveled south on 35 stopping for gas and then McDonalds for lunch.

We stopped on the Turnpike for lunch, but kept going after learning the charge more for a Big Mac on the Turnpike than they do off the Turnpike.

We found this horse, he was just standing there so we checked him out.

Then Joey Sluggarded the horse, he just didn’t move though.

When we got to Dallas we stayed with Zach’s uncle since he has beds and showers. They were great host and allowed many of us to see things we’ve never seen before.

A one point while I was resting in a hot tub, Connor was nice enough to go get us gatorade from the hanger. He tossed one bottle to me, no problem, then he tossed a second bottle across the pool. The Intern decided to try and catch it which deflected it into my head causing the cut you see above. No time for stitches on the trip so our great host put a butterfly thing on it.

This is the bike Lance Armstrong rode in the Tour de France when he won his 6 title. Not across the finish line, but one of them. It has his autograph on it and Mike (Zach’s Uncle) actually rides it as his bike.

We had a great experience at Mike’s place. Slept well, showered and continued on on our journey to serve Christ’s church in Laredo.
