Summer Gathering 2009: Week 3^{0}

Tonight was week three of our Summer Gathering where students 6th – 12th grade are studying the book I Kissed Dating Goodbye by Joshua Harris. We break into groups for the study and meet together for games afterwards. Tonight we covered chapters 3 and 4. Chapter 3 points out the reasons our common view of “Christian” dating is not the best way for young believers to handle relationships with the opposite gender. Seven specific defects of our culture’s concept of dating are observed and discussed. Chapter 4 begins to develop a new attitude about relationships. The five points discussed are below.

I. Every relationship is an opportunity to model Christ’s love.

II. My unmarried years are a gift from God.

III. I don’t need to pursue a romantic relationship before I’m ready for marriage.

IV. I cannot “own” someone outside of marriage and should not act as though I do.

V. I will avoid situations that could compromise the purity of my body or mind.
