A Prayer For Our Students {0}
I teach the Bible Class at Westminster each year. This year we began class with a prayer that speaks to what we hope God will make of us, we revisited it a few times during the year and today we closed class praying it once more. It is based off an old John Piper prayer that I edited to be more in line with the life of youth.
Lord Make us Young Men and Young Women…
Who don’t love the world more than God
Who don’t care if their parents are rich
Who don’t care about fancy phones
Who don’t care if they have a car
Who don’t need trendy fashions
Who don’t emulate teen idols
Who don’t whine to get attention
Who don’t expect that life should be easy
Who don’t feed their minds on TV everyday
Who don’t look to culture for truth
Who don’t get hurt by others disapproval
Who don’t seek their own revenge
Who don’t hold grudges
Who don’t gossip
Who don’t twist the truth
Who don’t pridefully brag or boast
Who don’t compromise modesty for attention
Who don’t criticize more than praise
Who don’t choose popular friends over brothers & sisters in Christ
Who don’t exclude others to build up self
Who don’t sit lazily on their rears
Who don’t waste their teenage years
But…
Who are ablaze for God
Who are freaks for the glory of God
Who are filled with the Holy Spirit
Who seek to know how deep the love of God is
Who are crucified to the world and dead to sin
Who are hungry for the holy word of God
Who fight sin like an intruder in your home
Who are mighty in memorizing & using Scripture
Who keep the Lord ’s Day holy & refreshing
Who are convicted to repentance of sin in their life
Who are over joyed at God’s grace in forgiveness
Who live that God would be glorified
Who are praying throughout the day
Who find joy & freedom in self-denial
Who are public examples of Christ’s Lordship over all
Who live by true theology
Who reach out to the hurting and oppressed
Who are passionate about sharing the gospel
Who will defend those who cannot defend themselves
Who will keep their promises
Who will guard their hearts and purity for Jesus and their future spouse
Who are content with what God has given them.

Last Breakaway Rewind {0}
Last night was the last Breakaway of the school year. It will resume the first day of school in August. The last two years we’ve ended with an end of year party featuring various food, prayer and Karaoke. More photos of the night after the link.

Last Breakaway of the Year! {0}
Tonight is the last Breakaway of the year and we are throwing our annual Karaoke Party in the Youth Room. Time is the same 6:30 to 8:00. We ask you to send your child with a snack, chips or dessert if possible, but it not required. See you there! Pic above is the Vos’ from RiverRanch last year.

Shaving Cream War 2009 Updated {1}
Tonight was the first of what will likely become an annual spring event at Breakaway. After small group teaching over Galatians 1:10 (Redeemer Students felt as though they had heard this recently somewhere) everyone headed outside for shaving cream games before an all out battle began. 98 cans of shaving cream for those who like stats. After the link I’ve posted a ton of photos from the evening, My favorite moment of the night was when we were spraying people clean and Emily Preston kept showing up in the line again and again. Finally I asked her why she kept coming back and she yells out in desperation, “I just want to be clean!” Enjoy the photos.

Shaving Cream Games On Tonight {0}
Reminder to student and parents. Today is the Breakaway Shaving Cream Games Day. At the end of the night we’ll be playing games involving shaving cream. There will be a hose hooked up to spray students down, but we ask that you bring a towel for them to dry off with before they get into your car for the ride home. That is actual photo of the 98 cans of shaving cream ready for tonight.
