Breakaway Review January 21st 2009 {0}
Tonight Scott Brown opened us up in prayer and we watched the Woody’s Round Up video in the post below to start the evening. From time to time we see who can eat an item the fastest. Connor Lutz always wins. Always. Tonight we tried the contest with a single Heresy’s candy bar and for the first time in history he was barely beating by Chris. Katie was only a few seconds behind the guys which was really impressive.
After singing an RUF rendition of For All the Saints and we broke into smaller groups. The younger students continued through 25 Basic Bible Studies by Francis Schaeffer as they learned what Scripture revels about God’s work of creation. The older youth studied Hebrews 12:3-11 in regards to the discipline of parents and how that is a model to us regarding the discipline of the Lord. One aspect of this is understanding that while we don’t enjoy discipline from parents or God it is a sign of love and genuine concern. “For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.”
Younger students played slaughter ball while the older students played Swatter. There are only pics of older students this week, but we’ll have a broader range of photos in the future. Follow link for more photos.

Woody’s Round Up {1}
Many of you are aware that a mission team from Redeemer goes to Moldova (kinda Russia) and works with the local church there. One aspect to their trip each year is visiting a Tuberculosis(TB) home for Children. This disease does not really exist in the United States anymore, but in countries who do not have proper vacanations it is still common. TB affects the lungs and at times the central nervous system and other areas. Because Pulmonary TB is contagous these children are kept away from others who do not have it which can be very lonely. The missionaries enjoy bringing beanie babies or other small stuffed animals to these children in the name of Christ on these visits. If you have any small stuffed animals or beanie babies that you would willingly part with please place them in the big blue bucket in the hallway by the book the table. You might ask your friends as well and see just how many we can collect to be distributed in the name of Christ.

Breakaway January 14th 2009 {2}
Tonight at Breakaway we played Clusters, worshiped God in singing Indelible Grace music and then split into small groups for teaching. Second – fifth graders have been going through Francis Schaeffer’s 25 Basic Bible Studies. Tonight was part two, looking at who God is. Let me remind you to bring your Bible for our studies. High School students were taught by Jacob Vos this week. Jacob came very prepared and did a great job on the topic of living out the Gospel everyday. We went over many verses including Titus 2:11-12, “For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age.” There were many great applications, but the one that stands out the most to me is the necessity for Christians to find an environment to interact in that will encourage a Godly worldview. We certainly need to go and be a light in the world, but Jacob has learned in his first semester of college that it is easier to seek God daily when you are surrounded by others who do the same. Jacob really did do a great.
Elementary played Beast of the Field, a game similar to Sharks and Minnows minus the water. The Junior High and High School played an intense game of Slaughter (Pastor Nathan’s great idea). The pictures in this post are from that game.
