Redeemer Olympics and Movie Night{2}
Before giving the result of the first ever Redeemer Olympics let me remind you that Movie Night is tonight in the youth room from 7-10 p.m. All students 6th grade and up are invited to enjoy a movie and popcorn. Parents if you have concerns about what movie please give me a call today 913-439-9319, I prefer to keep the title a suprise. Now…
For the first ever Redeemer Olymipics we had three competing nations, Uzbekistan, Peru and Texas. In the end Peru and Texas were tied in the medal count with Peru winning due to their high number of gold medals.
Run Down of events
1. Wall Sit – required a sitting stance against a wall for as long as possible. It came down to gymnastics trained Roxie and Potty trained Chris. Both there legs began to shake against their wills and Christ held on for just a bit longer. Gold went to Chris Earnshaw, Silver to Roxie Vos and Bronze to Robbie Hotz.
2. Cotton Ball Shotput – Just like it sounds, other than a DQ for inovation (wading up cotton ball) on the part of Zach Lutz the event went off perfect. Gold went to Mark Sievert, Silver to Sam Basham and Bronze to Cam Earnshaw.
3. Down Sprite – Simply drink the Sprite as fast as you can. The Earnshaw twins have been training in this for quite some time and it showed as Cam broke the world record with the gold medal and Chris also breaking the previous world record received a bronze medal. Zach Hershberger from Bulgaria finished with the silver.
4. Standing Jump – Stand and jump as far as you can. Early on there were high hopes for Brandon and Mark that proved to be misguided as the men finished with Cam Hershberger winning gold followed by Robbie Hotz and Zach Lutz. In the women’s division Roxie Vos took gold with Joy Hillyer winning silver and the bronze going to dance guru Sophie Elliot.
5. Race Walk – This turned out to be quite entertaining as 20 man walk race went up and down the halls before returning to the youth room with overly serious faces from all the effort. Robbie Hotz again took gold for Peru with Zach Hershberger close behind bringing the silver home to Texas. Connor Lutz took bronze adding to the Purivian medal count. In the ladies division Roxie Vos brought home yet another gold followed by Joy Hillyer with the silver.
6. Coin Catch – Coin catch has contestant holding 8 coins on their elbow which must then be caught using the same arm’s hand. Connor Lutz’s training in “hey, can I have that” proved to be strong as he took home the gold with 7 coins. Connor was followed by brother Zach and Chris Earnshaw with 3 and 2 coins respectively.
7. Rowing – 4 rolling chairs facing backwards and a fifth facing forward to yell, “pull” over and over again. Peru gained gold, Texas the silver after a nasty wreck on their first run and Uzbekistan the bronze.
8. 20m Roll – The 20m roll is roll down the hall like you are going down a hill. It is very hard to go straight and many heads made contact with wall. Robbie smashed his head and still managed to win the gold, he was in Phelps like form during these games.In the women’s division Roxie brought home another gold medal.
Final: Like we said Peru won these games just beating out Texas. 7 individual world records and one team world record was set along with two athletes gaining the title of most decorated athlete in the history of the games. Roxie Vos with 5 total medals, 3 of which were gold and Robbie Hotz with 4 medals 3 of which were gold.
There is already talk of the 2012 Redeemer Olympics and how Jack Reymond will fair in the dismount event.
