Sunday Night Discipleship {0}
Above is our High School Sunday Night Discipleship group. We’ve recently been discussing Philippians 4:8 and how that applies to the music we listen to whether is is Christian music or secular music. The verse reads, “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
Rest assured this did not end in a CD burning only a challenge to think more intentionally about what we allow to our minds to dwell on as a result of the songs we listen to and the words we inevitablly memorize with them. This is true whether it is a song by Hannah Montana teaching us that we can never be fulfilled apart from a boyfriend/girlfriend (the lie of course is that we are fulfilled in Christ and not others) or whether it is a ridiculous mantra like that of Chris Tomlin’s song that reads, “We’re gonnna dance in the river…Yeah” in a sort of mantra.
Students keep evaluating what you think of and parents challenge your children to think criticially and biblically of the music you both hear on your car rides.
