Joey’s Play: Alice in Wonderland

2008
04.10

Last Friday and Saturday Joey Kennedy performed as the Mad Hatter in Spring Hill High School’s production of Alice in Wonderland. Zach, Jacob, Joy, April, Robbie, Momo, Laura, Connor and I laughed our heads off. Joey not only made us laugh but the whole auditorium as well. God has gifted him with the ability to act and we look forward to seeing how he will glorify God with this gift (1 Corinthians 10:31). The whole cast did a great job! I for one sure hope Joey decides to wear that suit Sunday morning. Here are a few more pictures.

Something Awesome!

2008
04.08

To be completely honest “Something Awesome” was “Something Awkward” when the night began. It made me think of Moses parting the Red Sea the way each group stood off by themselves. However, getting over that awkwardness was one of the goals the evening and I believe we met that goal.

The night consisted of some games including, Would You Rather (example: Would you rather never be able to speak again or have to say everything that comes to your mind?), Kung Fu Fighters and People Bingo. After eating tons of cookies we came together for a time of worship through music. We requested organ music, but they were not able to find an organ on such short notice so we did our best to keep up. A band from Woodland Ridge lead worship and did a great job.

After singing I taught on the supremacy of the unity we have in Christ over every other belief and passion that unifies communities. The night ended with our embracing the awkwardness of meeting new people by everyone getting together with someone they’ve never met to learn three things about each other and ask how we might pray for each other. It was a great time of fellowship and worship with the broader body of Christ.

Deck the Walls

2008
04.07

Sunday Night Discipleship combined junior high and senior high this past Sunday to make some paintings to hang on the wall of the youth room. When you get a chance come see what our covenant children have painted expressing Biblical themes. In the other pictures you might notice Roxie is wearing an awesome shirt that reads, “Don’t mess with Texas.” Turns out she thought she might get paint on her shirt and put on one she didn’t care about. Her Canoe just might sink at RiverRanch this year. See more pictures of the evening here.

Pancake Breakfast: Pancake Joy

2008
04.07

Each year during the Juarez Pancake Breakfast we reach a point where innovation and creativity find a place along the griddle line. This year Joey came up with the bacon in pancake batter then cooked which received amazing reviews. Jo Prins even said, “That’s actually good.” This later led to the pancake battered M&M and the pancake battered Snickers bar. However, the most interesting innovation this year was the Pancake Portrait. Joy Hillyer served as the model, you can see the results above (also more photos if you follow the more link at bottom) and watch the making of video below.
